Chapter 6: Midnight Mansion (4)

“Ahhh——–”

Ren Xue’s high pitched scream rang through the entire mansion. Under the gaze of the others, she suddenly fell to the ground and was too scared to get up again. On all fours, she pathetically crawled forward.

As she crawled forward, the others finally saw the pair of footprints right behind where she had stood earlier. The left foot was missing half of it and blood was bleeding out. It was just as described by Cheng Zhi Chu.

“Ghost! Ghost—–!”

Ren Xue trembled on the ground and started to sob heart-wrenchingly. Wang Jianming quickly ran over and stood in front of her to protect her. At the same time his face was pale, and his teeth were chattering non-stop.

Cheng Zhi Chu and Lu Wenjing were also terrified. Lu Wenjing raised her blood-stained crowbar and waved it around desperately while screaming loudly: “Don’t come over! Don’t come over!”

The footprints remained in place as beads of blood fell from the air onto the ground forming a pool around it while exuding the rich stench of blood.

Everyone stared at it warily and didn’t dare to approach it. The footsteps then started moving. With a “splat”, it took a step forward.

When Cheng Zhi Chu saw that the footprints were pointed towards him, his entire body stiffened but he quickly reacted and ran away.

He didn’t know whether this ghost was the boss of this instance and he didn’t dare gamble on it. If he was wrong, he would definitely be killed off immediately by the ghost! Also, for it to appear so early, it probably isn’t the boss……then——-

“What are you standing around for? Run!!”

He yelled and returned Lu Wenjing and the others back to their senses. They all scattered and ran but Cheng Zhi Chu wanted to cry. Turns out, the ghost ended up coming for him. It continued to chase him around while spurting blood out everywhere leaving scattered stains on the floor. Despite the strange, awkward movements, you could tell that it was getting closer and closer.

Why was he so unlucky?!

Cheng Zhi Chu despairingly ran around the large marble table, then around the sofa. Huffing and puffing, he and the footprints circled around the living room a few times. Ren Xue and the others were dumbfounded by this and couldn’t help but slow down their steps. Gradually they all stopped and stood in place watching him run.

But who would have thought that the ghost seemed to be extremely biased towards Cheng Zhi Chu? It didn’t pay any attention to the others and persisted with chasing after him. Cheng Zhi Chu almost wanted to cry. He could no longer run anymore, and the system continuously reminded him of his depleting physical strength.

【Remaining physical strength: 3………..2………….】

If it reaches 0 then he would no longer be able to take another step! Why on earth is this ghost always chasing him? ——— Is it because of the key in his possession?

Cheng Zhi Chu’s mind quickly worked and just when he was considering whether he should throw the key over to someone else and let them all take turns running to tire the ghost out, he didn’t notice the broken floorboard. With a “crack” one of his foot sank in.

Fuck. Why did something like this happen?!

Cheng Zhi Chu was stunned. Just as he thought he was about to crash heavily onto the ground, a pair of strong arms suddenly reached over and held him firmly in its embrace. With his head pressed against the other person’s strong chest, he could faintly smell something nice.

———It was Bai Yi.

As soon as he looked up, Cheng Zhi Chu was faced with Bai Yi’s handsome face. The other person also happened to look down at the same time and revealed to him a gorgeous smile to seemingly appease him.

Cheng Zhi Chu was briefly stunned but, after hearing the sound of blood droplets falling to the ground slowly get louder and louder, he realised that the footsteps were less than an inch away from him!

He instantly got anxious. Bai Yi had come over to save him and he didn’t want to get Bai Yi involved. No longer caring about anything else, he pulled out the key with the intention to throw it and use it to attract the ghost’s attention, but Bai Yi grabbed his hand and said gently: “Don’t worry. It’s okay.”

After he said this, he looked up and glanced sternly in the direction of the footsteps. Those pitch-black eyes of his were both dark and deep, as if it was an abyss that could swallow up everything. From it, an extremely dangerous aura could be felt.

“Splat, splat………”

Like someone had suddenly stepped down onto the brakes, the footprints suddenly stopped, and blood sprayed out around it. The half-missing foot didn’t touch the ground and just hung in the air. Just beneath it was a pool of blood that just happened to form the shape of the sole of a foot.

The corners of Bai Yi’s lips rose, and he gave the ghost a smile. With faint shadows casted over his face, those eyes of his looked extremely cold.

“Bang———Smack!”

The next moment, Cheng Zhi Chu suddenly saw the footprints turn 180 degrees and speed off. If it wasn’t running in the direction of Wang Jianming and the others, he would have thought that it was running for its life.

“Ahhhh————”

Seeing the footprints rush towards them, Wang Jianming and Ren Xue screamed in fear and began running around the room the same way Cheng Zhi Chu had just moments ago.

Cheng Zhi Chu turned to look over at Bai Yi in surprise: “How did you stop it from chasing me?”

“………” Bai Yi fell silent for a few seconds and then said. “I used some holy water on myself, so it probably scared it off. I wasn’t sure that it would work but it looks like it did.”

“Since you have something that could be used to deal with the ghost, why didn’t you bring it out earlier?!!”

Wang Jianming yelled with a very pale face. He rolled across the ground to narrowly escape the footprints behind him and briefly felt the ghost’s fingers brush against him

“There are lots of things in the bag, so it took me a while to find.” Bai Yi slowly added, “Do you want me to take it out?”

“No shit! Did you just want to watch me die—–Ah!”

Wang Jianming suddenly felt something sharp slash across his back. Three thin slashes appeared on his back causing him to fall to the ground screaming. Something invisible then grabbed him by his neck and a purple handprint appeared on his skin.

“Jianming!”

Ren Xue’s anger towards Wang Jianming instantly vanished and she cried out in horror. Lu Wenjing was also terrified. She trembled against the wall with a shockingly pale face.

“Bai Yi, do you still have any holy water left?” Cheng Zhi Chu was also very anxious. If they couldn’t get rid of this ghost, not only Wang Jianming, every one of them would die here!

“Yes.”

Bai Yi nodded and then proceeded to make an expression as if he was looking for something. Every one of them had their own system backpack and their backpacks had a certain number of compartments that they can use to store items in.

He didn’t know how many compartments Bai Yi had but after going through them for a long time – to the point that Wang Jianming was about to show the whites of his eyes – he finally pulled out a bottle. He then proceeded to slowly walk over to Wang Jianming’s location.

The moment he saw the bottle, Cheng Zhi Chu couldn’t help but be surprised. His line of sight followed Bai Yi’s hand as he walked over —— No matter how he looked at it, that bottle storing the holy water seems to look like ——- a mineral water bottle?

Cheng Zhi Chu rubbed his eyes and took another closer look. Seeing that he didn’t see wrong, he was stunned.

A mineral water bottle?? Bai Yi is using something like this to store the holy water??

Under everyone’s terrified and anxious gaze, Bai Yi walked over to Wang Jianming who was still being choked by the ghost. He twisted open the mineral water bottle and, from far above, he poured the liquid out. At the same time, he spoke in an icy cold tone.

“You should know how you should be leaving.”

“Shaaaaa———”

The liquid made contact with something in mid-air and scattered before it had the chance to hit Wang Jianming forming a faint outline of a human. What was shocking was that it had half its head missing. Mixed with the liquid, more blood and brain fluid flowed out and they all fell onto Wang Jianming’s face.

“Ahhh!”

The moment it came into contact with the liquid, the human figure let out a gruesome cry. It released its grip around Wang Jianming’s neck and started to roll around the ground in pain. Because it was in excruciating pain, it twisted around on the ground more violently than Wang Jianming earlier.

Its cries were so terrible that the floorboards and furniture faintly shook along with it. Cheng Zhi Chu and the others closed their eyes and covered their ears in agony. They felt like their eardrums were about to burst.

The cry continued for a few seconds before it finally stopped. With the shaking of the floor and furniture stopping as well, the mansion once again fell into silence.

Cheng Zhi Chu cautiously opened his eyes and saw Wang Jianming lying on the floor gasping for air. The human figure was gone. Bai Yi on the other hand was looking down thoughtfully at the mineral water bottle that only had a little bit of liquid left inside.

“Is the ghost gone………….?” Cheng Zhi Chu swallowed to wet his dry throat and asked in a trembling voice.

“Looks like it.” Bai Yi looked up and smiled. “For the time being, we should be safe.”

“Phew……….”

Hearing him say this, Cheng Zhi Chu immediately breathed a sigh of relief. The system didn’t issue anything, so it looks like the ghost wasn’t the boss. Fortunately this was the case or he wouldn’t be able to complete the photo task…….

“Wu, wuwu……….”

At the same time, Ren Xue who saw Wang Jianming managing to stay alive collapsed to the ground and started to quietly sob. Lu Wenjing’s eyes were also red as she bent down and hunched up into a small ball.

“It’s okay Xiao Xue. Don’t worry about me, I’m fine.”

Wang Jianming rubbed his face to wipe off the blood stains and brain fluid and tried his best to act strong in front of Ren Xue. But because his throat was still sore, he violently coughed a few times.

He unsteadily stood up and drank a bottle of blood tonic. Just as he wanted to go over to comfort Ren Xue, he saw Bai Yi still staring at the bottle in his hand with a frown on his face. His expression immediately darkened, and he said through clenched teeth: “Are you distressed because you used the holy water? Don’t worry, I won’t take advantage of you. I’ll return the holy water to you later……..”

“No.” Bai Yi shook his head. “I just wanted to throw the bottle away but there are no bins around.”

Wang Jianming: “……….”

“Don’t throw it.” Cheng Zhi Chu who heard this immediately dissuaded him. “There’s still some of the holy water left so it would be a waste to throw it out. Why don’t we all put some of it on ourselves? It looks like it works pretty well against ghosts.”

“……….Sounds good.”

Bai Yi smiled and nodded his head. He then handed the bottle around and everyone carefully applied a small amount of it on their skin.

When it was Cheng Zhi Chu’s turn, he deliberately brought it over to his nose and gave it a sniff. What was strange was that the holy water smelt like regular mineral water…….

But after being saved multiple times by Bai Yi, the current Cheng Zhichi was very trusting of him and he didn’t suspect anything. He passed the bottle back to Bai Yi and very sincerely gave his thanks.

“Earlier I didn’t have the chance to say it but thank you very much Bai Yi. It’s all thanks to you that we were able to deal with that ghost and I was even saved by you multiple times. I will definitely repay you so if you need anything, as long as it is something that I am capable of, I will definitely help you.”

“That’s just your own opinion. Even if he isn’t here, it doesn’t necessarily mean that we wouldn’t be able to deal with the ghost…..”

Wang Jianming who was unwilling to admit this mumbled in a low voice but there was a hint of embarrassment on his face. After all, he was the one that was made most miserable by the ghost.

No one paid him any attention and Bai Yi just responded to Cheng Zhi Chu gently with a few words. It made Cheng Zhi Chu feel even more close to him. After all, who wouldn’t want to be friends with someone so nice and so handsome!

“I really think that you’re amazing. You’re also so much calmer than us.” Cheng Zhi Chu said with admiration, “Your level must be higher than ours. What level are you?”

Infinite Escape wasn’t very strict about a players’ level and the instances they can enter; they just needed to make sure the difference was no more than five levels. But if a player enters an instance that is of a lower level than they are, the difficulty would increase. For example, a level 10 player can enter a level 12 instance of normal difficulty but if they enter a level 8 instance it would at least be of hard difficulty.

Players in the same instances can have different difficulties so Cheng Zhi Chu guessed that this instance may be of hard difficulty for Bai Yi. Seeing Bai Yi still maintaining a calm expression and acting indifferent despite this, he must be very powerful.

“………” For a moment, Bai Yi revealed a subtle look. He then asked back with a smile, “What level do you think I am?”

“Um…….level 8?” Cheng Zhi Chu said with some uncertainty.

“That’s right. You’re very good. I’m level 8.”

Bai Yi didn’t hesitate to agree. He then moved to change the topic and said: “With the ghost gone, we can now go to the main bedroom on the second floor. There should be some clues.”

Bai Yi’s Diary (Part 6)

Its performance was too exaggerated. Low rating. Made me almost be suspected.

What made me happy was that Zhi Chu said that he would definitely help me out if I need anything ——- I wonder if he would be willing to give himself to me?

I only want him.

It’s hard to be a ghost nowadays… After being scared and dominated by a powerful person, they were also forced to act a scene…

… What else is holy water supposed to smell like? It’s water that’s been “blessed” by a priest, not some sort of rare fruit juice.
