GETOP – CH15

Chapter 15

You can never wake up a person who is pretending to be asleep.

As if he couldn’t smell the blood, Lu Jiahe helped him fix his collar.

He was very careful as he did it, fearing that the bony spurs on the back of his hand would scratch Lu Yan’s skin.

“Big brother will be going on a business trip. I’ll be back in two days.” Lu Jiahe’s voice was very gentle, “When big brother is done cleaning up the school, you can go back.”

Lu Yan was once again tied to the head of the bed. He was very frustrated but he could only hold it in because he couldn’t win against Lu Jiahe.

Lu Jiahe closed the door, “Wait for my return.”

There was a crimson layer of gloominess in the depths of his eyes.

After he left, the room felt emptier and the bloodstains on the walls looked even redder.

Because he was too thirsty, Lu Yan decided to take a bath. The bathtub was filled with water when he got in, but it was half empty when he got out.

His thirst however eased considerably.

Lu Yan turned on the TV while he was blow-drying his hair. There was still no signal.

Apart from the fashion magazines, there were only some popular novels in Lu Yán’s bookshelf.

There was no internet on his phone and he also couldn’t make calls.

But in his inbox, the contact ‘Lin Sinan’ sent him a message praising how beautiful Lu Yan’s newly grown fish scales were and expressed that he wanted to pull out a couple of them if he had the chance.

“…..”

Lu Yan couldn’t help but reply, “Who are you?”

A red exclamation mark appeared on his phone. His phone had no service so naturally, the message couldn’t be sent out.

Lu Yan was woken up by the noise. Because he was too bored and also because he didn’t sleep well before, not long after taking a bath, he fell asleep.

When he woke up, he saw that the sky outside was already dark. Probably because he hadn’t eaten for more than thirty hours, Lu Yan’s stomach let out an untimely grumble.

There was the sound of a door opening downstairs. It was followed by a faint voice, “Lu Yán~ Miss Lu, it’s time for dinner.”

“Mr. Lu will be angry if he finds out that I haven’t been taking good care of you.”

“I’m being paid by Mr. Lu so I naturally can’t let him down, don’t you think so?”

“Lu Yán, come out now.”

It was impossible for him to distinguish the gender through the voice. It was just very hoarse and harsh to the ears, like nails scratching on a blackboard.

In the dark night, there was the sound of footsteps. Lu Yan listened carefully. It sounded like someone was dragging something and there was also the sound of metal hitting the wall.

When Lu Yan heard this sound, he felt that it was likely some kind of dangerous knife.

The number on his watch rose rapidly as the other party approached. It soon broke past 1000 before finally stabilising at 1500.

He held tightly onto his dagger, took a deep breath, and tried to cut the chain with it. The chain was however stronger than he thought. The double-edged dagger worth 500 contribution points only produced some sparks but it didn’t leave a single mark on the chains.

The nanny was already outside the door.

At first, she wanted to quietly open the door, but when she saw that Lu Yan had locked it, she began to knock on the door with great force.

The bedroom door was just a wooden door but it seemed to have been strengthened in this dream. The knocking was as forceful as hitting a drum but the bedroom door just trembled, without showing any signs of breaking.

“Lu Yán, why are you acting like this?!” The nanny’s voice was filled with anger, “Open the door!”

In the room, the four eyes that were originally open had closed their eyes. Lu Yan guessed that this meant that the surveillance in the room had been turned off.

Lu Yan looked around the room for a weapon while calmly replying, “I’m not hungry.”

“You have to eat even if you’re not hungry. Your older brother spoils you too much!” The nanny said, “I’m not trying to blame you but how exactly has your older brother wronged you? I have never seen a younger sister like you! It hasn’t been easy for him to raise you, how can you be so unfilial? Your older brother is very busy with his work, can’t you at least give him less trouble on your end?”

That was probably how Lu Yán appeared to others.

In the eyes of outsiders, the car accident involving the Lu couple was purely just an accident. It was hard to link it with Lu Jiahe.

Lu Yán was probably also aware of this, but after losing both her parents, she could only vent this pain out on others.

Outside the door, the nanny raised the axe in her hand.

She was a woman with a big build and was almost two metres tall. She wore bright lipstick and blue eyeshadow, a cotton-padded jacket and a pair of trousers. The nanny’s jacket was open, revealing a pouch on her belly that resembled a kangaroo’s pouch. Several skinny arms that were scorched black were sticking out of that pouch, groping around.

That was her beloved son.

Although her son had a bad habit of stealing, and even had some ill intentions when he ran into her employer’s younger sister while he was stealing…but Lu Yán was definitely not killed by her son. Lu Yán died from falling out of the window in her attempt to escape!

This was her dear baby. She had been feeding him spoonful after spoonful of milk and rice, raising him until now. He was the lifeblood of the Wang family, her spiritual support. How could she let him go to jail?

But this damned Lu Jiahe. The nanny knew he was a well-known lawyer in the field with a good reputation and often provided free legal aid to families in need. He often left criminals in court unable to continue defending for themselves and was determined to punish every criminal with the maximum sentence permitted by law.

If they let her son bear all the crimes, he would only have the option of paying for his crime with his life.

That’s why Lu Yán died from falling out the window amidst an argument with her that got a little physical.

That was her confession.

But the nanny didn’t realise one thing.

Lu Jiahe believed in the rules of the law. He firmly believed that only the law had the power to punish the guilty, even if sometimes, the associated law wasn’t appropriate.

Someone like this chose to personally deliver justice.

Lu Jiahe spent a month learning about her son’s travel routes and behaviour patterns. Finally, one night, he took him away without anyone noticing.

He locked him in a basement, castrated her son, cut off his flesh little by little with a knife and then set him on fire, burning him into charcoal.

After committing such a heinous crime, the murderer himself seemed to have disappeared from this world and was nowhere to be found. He didn’t even receive any legal sanctions! Only her son who had died tragically was left to wander alone in hell.

She was devastated by this.

Fortunately, in this world, the nanny could put her son back in her stomach, allowing him to be reborn.

The nanny raised the bloody axe and smashed it against the door.

The blade pierced through to the other side.

The wooden door couldn’t withstand such a blow. It was soon broken into many pieces.

“Miss Lu Yán, stop hiding. Come out and eat…” A smile appeared on her face, “Stop hiding, my son misses you too.”

The nanny stretched out a hand and reached for the doorknob.

Lu Yan was hiding under the bed. He took out his phone.

The phone still had no signal.

He pulled up the message interface with Big Brother and sent out two words without any expectations: “Save me.”

-Enlightenment Forum-

Topic: The newly emerged pollution zone in the suburbs between K City and M City was due to the collective appearance of A-Grade Pollutants, ‘Dream Eater’ and ‘Wall of Resentment’. K City and M City Pollution Disease Centres have dispatched more than 12 Enlighteneds as well as more than 110 soldiers to investigate but no one returned alive. It is now tentatively classified as an A-Grade pollution incident.

1L: No one returned alive??? That’s too scary. Have they sent back any information?

2L: My home is in that area. Holy shit, K City and M City are right next to me. It has always been peaceful before and the C-Grade parasitic fish pollution incident from a few days ago also affected K City.

3L: The world is doomed.

4L: There have been more changes recently than in the past ten years. Now that news of the pollution disease and Enlighteneds have been made public…I hope it doesn’t cause more commotion.

5L: Look at what happened abroad. S-Grade Pollution Zone ‘God’s Kingdom’ completely wiped out a small island country. There is no point hiding this from the public anymore, they will soon find out. The Public Relations Department has been working overtime all these years, deleting posts from the internet every day. Let them rest.

6L: To weak, can’t do anything.jpg (Smoking emoji)

……

……

73L: Latest update. Tyrant and his lackeys were dealing with the ‘Wall of Resentment’ before. The wall originally appeared abroad last time and now it has reached M City. He has probably followed it and gone inside.

74L: Tyrant went in? Then it has been four days, why have we not received any news?

75L: A combination of Dream Eater’s Nightmare Realm + Wall of Resentment’s Cycles of Resentment. No one knows how many smaller instances there are in there…Give them some time, okay?

“There are fifteen minutes before the start of the college entrance examination. Invigilators, please organise the students and let them enter the examination centre…”

The voice in the speaker sounded a little harrowing.

Tang Xun’an stood in the corridor, leaning against the balcony, smoking. He watched as Pollutants passed by.

These mutants with strange appearances had vicious looks on their faces as they stared at the motionless Tang Xun’an, their saliva almost dripping from the corners of their mouths.

“Want to eat me?” Tang Xun’an’s tone was very annoying and provocative, with a hint of nonchalance, “Come.”

But these Pollutants didn’t dare go over. The exam was about to begin. If they violated the rules, they would be torn to pieces by the invigilator.

Tang Xun’an extinguished the tranquilliser and said in a very sad tone, “I didn’t expect to still have nightmares about the college entrance examination after graduating so many years ago.”

Tang Xun’an rested his hand on the Tang sword hanging at his waist. The sword was completely black and had a rather special name ‘Huang Chen’. (KKnotes: Literally translates to Yellow Dust)

Transformations of a thousand years gallop by like horses, yellow dust soon seawater below changeless island peaks.’ (KKnotes: Excerpt from Li He’s Sky Dream)

This name naturally wasn’t randomly chosen. People at the Research Institute said that there was no one more suitable for this ancient sword than Tang Xun’an.

“Of course, it’s because I’m waiting…for you.” Tang Xun’an drew the sword and smiled.

Unlike his laid-back temperament, his eyes were cold, like heavy snow during winter. As a result, whenever he smiled, it inevitably reminded people of the trickling water underneath the ice during early spring.

Tang Xun’an drew his sword very quickly and was even faster putting it away.

Following a flash of light, the werewolf in front of him was cut into two. Blood gushed out, wetting the soles of his shoes.

The changes to the corpse didn’t stop there. The werewolf’s dark hair turned grey, as if rapidly ageing, and its body continued to shrink and shrivel up. Within just a few breaths, it looked like a strip of dried meat.

There were two ways to escape from a dream. The first way was to kill the Pollutant with the highest pollution level in the dream and the second way was to wake the owner of the dream.

In order to save time, Tang Xun’an had always used the first method.

He took out his pocket watch and checked the reading. 97.2. This was a number that would make the headquarters tremble and faint.

The only good thing about being in a dream was that, although the pain was real, the pollution level and injuries were actually all fake. As long as you didn’t die and didn’t turn into a Pollutant, it wasn’t a big problem.

The space before him began to distort and reorganise. It turned into another dream.

A road had appeared in front of Tang Xun’an. It was unknown where it led to. The air smelt faintly of sulfur. By the side of the road, there were several charred bodies occasionally struggling to crawl forward.

“Pollution level over 10,000. Will I finally…” Tang Xun’an looked at the city in the distance, “be able to clock off work?”
