Chapter 17
In his spare time, besides reading, archery and watching horror movies, Lu Yan occasionally watched romance dramas from the last century.
The main purpose was to learn how humans would normally express their emotions.
He was twenty years old that year. When the protagonist on the screen shouted ‘stop fighting over me’, he scoffed and wondered what was the point of saying it when the two were already fighting.
Right now, Lu Yan also wanted to shout ‘stop fighting over me’.
But the circumstances didn’t allow him to do so.
“Give me back my younger sister!”
Lu Jiahe’s tone was especially fierce. The flames around him showed no signs of settling down. He looked like a vengeful ghost who had just crawled out from Crimson Lotus Hell.
Tang Xun’an drew his sword. The lights reflecting off the blade formed an intricate web, brilliant and dazzling, but also deadly. Everything around him began to erode and decay.
Time was both the fairest and cruellest force in this world.
Black dragon scales appeared on Tang Xun’an’s skin little by little.
He raised a brow, “Want her? Come and get her yourself.”
The two were at odds with each other, neither willing to give in.
[If I were you, I would definitely choose to find a safe place to watch the show. These two people can get a little crazy when they’re fighting. You are too weak and can easily get caught in the crossfire.]
Upon hearing this, Lu Yan subconsciously moved away from the battlefield. He asked as he moved out of the way, “System? Why are you back?”
It was rather peculiar. As he moved, the sea of fire automatically made way for him to pass through safely. It was like when Moses parted the Red Sea.
[The energy fluctuations here are too strong. The Dream Eater felt that it can no longer control its dreams so it has escaped, lest it get killed by Tang Xun’an. Moreover, the Wall of Resentment will soon appear….In short, I am safe.]
[Oh, I know you must be wondering who Dream Eater was. It was the Lin Sinan who was messaging you. It’s very good at playing tricks on people but once it encounters a combat type and its true identity is revealed, it cannot put up a fight.]
The system sighed: [A normal person would definitely die if they encountered an instance like this, because in the older brother’s dream, the younger sister is bound to die no matter what. He wasn’t able to save Lu Yán back then, so he naturally wouldn’t be able to save you now.]

[After his younger sister died, Lu Jiahe’s mental state also had some problems. He felt that his younger sister had only run away from home. He was infected at a very young age and had been plagued with bad luck since then. It wasn’t until his younger sister died that he completely broke down and turned into a Pollutant. He had walked through countless streets in search of his younger sister but unfortunately encountered that wall eight years ago. You are currently his 3600th cycle of reincarnation.]
[Oh, by the way, did I forget to give you Big Brother’s information?]

[If he is lucky, he might get his third ability here…]
[Fortunately, you are a koi fish. No, you’re not a koi fish, you are a Disney princess on the run with an S-Class Enlightened and an S-Grade Pollutant protecting and escorting you. How do you feel about this, little sister?]
Lu Yan’s fists clenched in anger at the system’s jeering tone.
He looked down at his watch. It showed that his mutation degree had risen to 90.
As a doctor with the spirit of conducting research, every once in a while, Lu Yan would check his watch and record the changes occurring to his body as the mutation degree increased.
When his mutation degree reached 50, obvious mutational changes were appearing on his body. It mainly manifested as fish scales, fins growing on the side of his face, thirst for water, thirst for blood and also tinnitus.
When he reached 90, these abnormal changes conversely weakened, but his mood had become strange. Lu Fan occasionally had the urge to find a river somewhere and kill himself…or grant himself a new life.
Fortunately, he had a naturally calm temperament and didn’t experience much emotional fluctuations, so he was able to suppress this strange urge.
Lu Yan watched the flashes of weapons in the distance. Lu Jiahe didn’t have a weapon but he had sharp bony claws that could grow out of thin air. The two forces collided, producing dull trembling sounds of weapons hitting each other.
This was a gift Lu Jiahe had received during one of his countless reincarnations. During one of them, he almost managed to save his younger sister, but at that time, he was just a low-level Pollutant and his hand was cut off by the nanny’s axe. He could only watch helplessly as the axe split his younger sister in half.
After that reincarnation, bones grew out from Lu Jiahe’s hands.
He was very thirsty and wanted to drink some water.
The fire was burning everything. Although they didn’t burn Lu Yan, they had practically evaporated all the moisture in the air.
Lu Yan licked his extremely dry lips. He knew that this would only accelerate the loss of water in his body, but the unbearable thirst made him unable to control his actions, “What about Tang Xun’an’s information?”

Lu Yan was shocked, “He’s Tyrant?”
Lu Yan had never seen Tyrant before. He thought he was probably an old man who was nearly a hundred years old but still sharp-minded, in good health and filled with determination. He might have a bad temper because he often worried about the fate of mankind and couldn’t sleep and, perhaps after years of fighting against Pollutants, he may be riddled with all sorts of ailments.
But he really didn’t expect that the strongest fighter of mankind, based on appearance alone, looked like a university student who is aware that he is handsome, wearing a military uniform as cosplay.
Of course, it wasn’t impossible if the setting was changed to that of a Japanese manga.
The system smoked a cyberpunk style e-cigarette: [Yes. He was too young when he chose his alias and now he cannot change it even if he wanted to. How embarrassing.]
Just as Lu Yan and the system were watching the fight, the wall beside him that had been scorched black by the flames was suddenly covered in a layer of blood.
The blood seemed to have come alive, flowing and gathering together.
Thick smell of blood once again overshadowed the burning smell. Lu Yan looked over and was shocked to see that, at some point in time, a bloody figure had coalesced on one side of the wall.

Countless bloody hands stretched out towards the bloody figure, as if trying to grab it, or trying to push it away.
In other words, these hands had different attitudes.
Lu Yan was startled by this strange scene and even his mutation degree couldn’t help but increase by 0.1.
The bloody figure slowly approached Lu Yan little by little. As it moved, the surrounding temperature continued to drop, becoming unusually cold. Lu Yan, who was just in a sea of fire a moment ago, now felt like he was going to get frostbite.
The fine hairs on Lu Yan’s back stood on end, “What is that thing?”
[A piece of resentment from the Wall of Resentment. You should be very familiar with her.] The system sighed: [This is the physical manifestation of Lu Jiahe’s resentment. The Wall of Resentment holds resentment of countless individuals who had died in vain…If an ordinary person reincarnated a dozen times, they have a possibility of becoming a part of the Wall of Resentment, but Lu Jiahe has reincarnated thousands of times. He has lost all his memories but he still remembers that he has to rescue his younger sister. As a result, in this wall filled with resentment, his younger sister became the strongest monster.]
[This place is both nothingness and reality. People are made up of memories. If the body dies and the memory remains, what would you call that?]
A girl made from blood finally broke free from the hands behind her and stepped out of the wall.
The hands that remained in the wall turned into countless bloody figures of varying heights. Only their eyes could be seen. Some were full of blessings while others were very vicious.
They were all people who had died in the Wall of Resentment. Some hoped that this young lady could break the curse and let their souls find true peace, without being subjected to cycle after cycle of despair and pain; others were jealous that she could finally break free….
[I should be telling you to run but this little sister seems to have something to say.]
The bloody figure slowly approached Lu Yan. It had no facial features and it couldn’t make any sounds. It was just a collection of blood.
The detector showed its pollution level: 700.
As a derivative of the wall, it wasn’t very strong after leaving the wall.
The younger sister held out a hand. It was an inviting gesture.
Lu Yan swallowed.
He was thirsty. Very, very thirsty.
As if he was bewitched, he also reached out and held the younger sister’s hand.
The mouth on Lu Yan’s palm opened and began to eat every greedily. The mass of blood continued to condense and shrink before finally disappearing into his body.
Read from https://kktranslates.home.blog/A lot of memories that didn’t belong to Lu Yan appeared in his mind. He finally understood why the younger sister extended that hand.
I’ll give you my blood. In exchange, let me borrow your body for a moment.
His soul left his body. Like a god looking down at the world, he watched on. Nothing could escape his eyes at this moment. Lu Yan even saw several black ants crawling out from the cracks in the burnt earth.
In his ears, the system’s voice said: [Ah, congratulations. This is how I usually see the world.]
……
……
The battle in the distance continued.
Half of Tang Xun’an’s body had completely dragonised. His long and slender hands had turned into dragon claws and there was a pair of black wings on his back.
The mutated hand could no longer hold Huang Chen, so Tang Xun’an could only tear and bite with all his strength.
His body was still covered with a layer of crimson flames. The temperature was so high that the air around him was distorted. Golden blood flowed out from between his scales before it was quickly baked dry by the heat.
One of Lu Jiahe’s arms was broken. In the deepest part of his charred body, where the bones should be, small, fleshy pink buds continued to grow nonstop. The speed at which his body sustained damage, however, was far greater than the speed at which he could repair himself.
The final moments of the battle were very unsightly. It was like two monsters tearing each other apart and the ground was covered in severed body parts, dragon scales and golden blood.
But in the end, Tang Xun’an gained the upper hand. His dragon claws clamped around Lu Jiahe’s neck.
This wasn’t the first time he had broken off Lu Jiahe’s head. This charcoal-like man seemed to have the ability to regenerate infinitely. Even if his whole body was smashed into pieces, as long as there were still some fleshy buds left, he could reassemble himself. They were surrounded by charcoal anyway, he had plenty of supply.
But Tang Xun’an knew that this would be the last time.
Just like Lu Jiahe’s broken limbs, his remaining strength was no longer enough to support his regeneration.
The fire around them had gradually settled down at some point in time. Only a small flame remained, flickering on its last breath like a candle.
A warning sounded from Tang Xun’an’s earpiece, “Mutation degree has reached 99.7. Please stop using your abilities immediately and follow medical advice to take your medication! Mutation degree…”
Because it was too annoying, Tang Xun’an turned off the earpiece.
His hands slowly changed back to a human hand. He held Huang Chen, the long sword exuding a cold chill.
At this moment, a hand grabbed the sword.
It was Lu Yan’s hand, but it wasn’t completely Lu Yan.
Even after his body was strengthened, the wound was still deep enough to see the bones. The Kingfish was hurt by this injury and fearfully hid away in Lu Yan’s heart.
Tang Xun’an’s golden eyes were filled with hostility. He roared, “Move aside!”
The younger sister didn’t listen. She stubbornly stood in front of Tang Xun’an.
Lu Jiahe stood up with some struggle and held onto his younger sister.
Tang Xun’an’s sword was already raised, ready to fall any moment.
The world was beginning to collapse piece by piece, like a game with an error in its code.
The first thing to be swallowed up by the black hole was Tang Xun’an together with the land underneath him.
The younger sister spoke hurriedly to the burnt-out Lu Jiahe, “I have never blamed you.”
“I have a bad personality and hate a lot of people, including you, but I know you have never wronged me.”
“My parents were often disappointed in me because I wasn’t a boy. It’s not your fault. I blamed you only because you’re the only one who doesn’t fight back, so I took it out on you.” She justified the reason for her malice.
Humans have never been very noble creatures. Most were somewhere in between, neither very good nor very bad.
“You have already done enough for me. I’m tired of seeing it.”
“You should already be aware that I am dead. Wake up and go live your own life.”
“Big brother.”
Lu Jiahe’s face no longer had any facial features but two lines of tears flowed from his empty eye sockets.
His voice was hoarse, “I wanted to….save you….I’m sorry….”
Lu Jiahe had been called a bringer of misfortune since he was a child. As time passed, he also accepted the setting that ‘people who got close to him would become unfortunate’ but he really wanted a family.
If it weren’t for him, perhaps his adoptive parents and younger sister would still be alive. In a world without him, everything would be peaceful.
The younger sister in his arms didn’t answer. Like the morning dew, she began to evaporate.
Lu Jiahe’s face showed a hint of panic. He wanted to grab hold of her but he only grabbed a handful of sand.
The dream world collapsed.
With a confused expression, his skin and hair grew back, but his eyes were incomparably hollow.
It was night. There was a wall behind Lu Jiahe.
The wall collapsed with a loud thud.
There will no longer be a Wall of Resentment in this world.
Lu Jiahe’s mind was a mess. He felt that there was something he should remember but he couldn’t remember it. His mind was blank. Reincarnation after reincarnation had blurred his memories of the past.
He didn’t know who he was.
He didn’t know where to go.
All alone, he stood there. It was unclear how many people were watching the satellite surveillance at this moment, trembling in fear.
After a long time, he opened his mouth and slowly uttered two words, “….Little sister.”
But who was ‘little sister’?
His figure disappeared.
Late at night, the highest level alarm sounded in M City’s Pollution Disease Centre.
“Sudden appearance of pollution level exceeding 10,000 detected in the city centre of M City. Source of pollution is unknown. Satellite images have been captured for analysis.”
“A new S-Grade Pollutant has been discovered. Ability: Unknown. Alias…none. Code number: 11.”
“Information has been encrypted and processed.”

Abroad.
Tang Xun’an suddenly opened his eyes. There was murderous intent in his golden eyes that had not yet completely dissipated.
The teammates who had been waiting all this time instantly became nervous.
“Captain Tang! Take a deep breath!! You are the best!”
“Here’s the medicine! Here’s the medicine!! Captain Tang, stay calm!! Take the medicine and you’ll be fine!”
Tang Xun’an’s eyes travelled over the familiar faces before he received the straw and medicine.
The mutation degree on the screen gradually reduced and the wings behind him retracted. Everyone around him let out a sigh of relief.
Tang Xun’an looked a little older than inside the dream. At the very least, he didn’t look like a university student and his eyes were much sharper.
It was understandable for the teammates to be this nervous.
In Squadron 1 of Special Operations Division’s first team, Tang Xun’an was the captain and there was no vice captain.
Thirteen years ago.
Tang Xun’an, who had gone on a rampage, failed to control himself after dealing with the Pollutant and bit his only surviving teammate to death.
It was said that when support arrived, they almost thought Tang Xun’an’s mutation degree had exceeded 100. The ground was covered in blood and he held his Tang sword, silently guarding the body of the vice captain.
Tang Xun’an requested euthanasia but the headquarters didn’t agree to his request. Instead, they sent him a special mask that looked like a metal muzzle used to restrain an aggressive dog.
He drank his medicine through a straw and said, “Mission failed. I didn’t succeed in getting rid of the pollution source.”
“….But the Wall of Resentment is gone?” His teammates were very puzzled.
Tang Xun’an lowered his eyes and replied, “It just changed from a wall to a person. Let’s go back to our country.”

Wall of Resentment turning into a person… Is that better or worse? I kind of have a feeling it’s the latter…

Huh? Since mc drank the wall of resentment’s blood does that mean consuming part of it? Also, the text did not explicitly say Lu Jiahe is dead, does that mean he’ll come back later with his amnesia and recognize mc as his ‘sister’?
