Revenge – CH1

*WARNING* Not BL. No romance. TRAGEDY

KK has something to say:
Hi all! I wanted to try something a little different so I translated this short story. This time, rather than something cute/cheesy/funny, I decided to try something with the tragedy tag… Again, I translated as I read, no edit etc etc but this time I only realised that it was wrongly tagged BL on the website after finishing chapter 1! Since I’ve already started, I figured I might as well finish translating….So again, this novel is NOT BL!

Happy (or maybe not this time) reading ❤

Chapter 1

In a small room with metal walls, a fluorescent lamp hung from the ceiling making the room appear pale and cold.

“Do you understand what you did? You lost the country’s face! The country helped raise you and yet you betrayed us!” Following a burst of kicks and punches, the officer dressed in a military uniform roared. From his voice, his anger was evident and there was also a small hint of sadness within.

The one who was getting beaten was a young man in his twenties. He stood upright at a height of one metre ninety and accepted the other party’s attacks without a word. His eyes were unfocussed and he remained expressionless as he bit down onto his lips and a small stream of blood flowed out the corners of his lips.

After beating and cursing at him, the officer left the room while massaging his temples, his expression overcast. With a wave of his hand, two soldiers in military uniforms took the man to the confinement room. The man did not resist, his whole body was seemingly filled with dead air and his eyes were unfocussed.

The officer stood in the distance watching the door to the confinement room close before taking off his hat, furrowing his brows even further and turning to enter the monitoring room. Expressionlessly, he spoke to the person before him: “Old Wang, this time we can’t resist anymore.”

The man called Old Wang was a middle-aged man in his forties but he did not have the weariness people at his age would typically have — How many people at this age have been oppressed by life? Old Wang’s body emitted a strong aura, more specifically, a deadly aura.

“Maybe we really can no longer resist. That child, ruined….Old Qin, we…” Old Wang looked at his partner for many years and for a while couldn’t speak. Towards that child, they used to have great expectations……It was just that the bigger their expectations, the bigger their disappointment.

The two went silent and sat in the monitoring room, no longer making another sound.

After only a day, another three people entered the monitoring room but the two originally inside did not move in response.

“Division 9 of the National Security Bureau.” One of the men in his thirties raised his eyes: “To think that the two respectable gods are here. Looks like this time disaster has struck.” It was evident in his tone that he was gloating at their misfortune.

“To think that there are bastards like this in Division 9!” Another big man gnashed his teeth and said this while glaring at the image on the surveillance panel – What looked like a still picture was the surveillance video of the confinement room. The person inside did not eat or drink the whole day and there were still bruises on his face but he remained standing there like a statue, quiet and lifeless.

“That’s true. What hope of the country? You’ve all fallen to the extent of killing students who know nothing. Division 9, Hah!” The shrewd man who spoke first added with disdain before pressing a button beside it. Immediately, a voice came over the speakers:

“I am a soldier of the Chinese Liberation Army. I swear to obey China’s leaders, to serve the people wholeheartedly, to strictly observe discipline, to fight heroically, to not be afraid of sacrifice, to be loyal to my duty, to work hard, and in any circumstances, to never betray the motherland and to never betray the army…”

Repeated over and over again, this was actually played in the confinement room to the unmoving man for the whole day?

The expression on the face of the shrewd man twisted sarcastically. Swearing that you would serve the people yet you actually try to hurt the public!

“There was a reason for it!” Old Wang who had been silent suddenly spoke. At the same time, the imposing air around him became even stronger.

“Reason? So what if there’s a reason? The so-called elite raised by Division 9, the so-called top sniper, the so-called nation’s claws single-handedly killed eight high school students the day before yesterday! Eight! Even using the most cruel and inhuman methods. A person like him can no longer be considered human! He’s a demon! The country invested so much money and so many resources for you to train the sharpest soldiers to deal with terrorists, not a wild beast that kills people!” Every word spoken by the shrewd man attacked the hearts of all the people present. Old Wang’s expression did not change but in his eyes there was a hint of sorrow.

The shrewd main smiled disdainfully as he pressed another switch and said: “Zhou Wen. You deliberately murdered innocents. This is serious. The military court will pass its judgement for you tomorrow!”

This was the switch to the speaker in the room. Everyone knew that those words would be heard by the young man called Zhou Wen but the other party still revealed no reaction.

There was obvious frustration in the eyes of the shrewd man: “Zhou Wen, do you know what you are now? You are the country’s pest! Only a bitch can raise someone like you…….”

“Don’t curse my family!” The man who didn’t move or speak suddenly spoke up at this moment.

“Why can’t I? The country wanted you to serve the people and what did you do? Eight children. Eight children died in your hands! Don’t you feel any shame?!”

“Why should I be?!” The man who had always been quiet instantly lashed out: “Why should I be? They killed my brother! My only brother!”

“You could use the law…”

“Law. Yeah, law. Law, law…….hah…….” He let out a strange but heart-wretching voice: “That’s why the police said that my brother was killed because he ran a red light. That’s why the so-called children only stayed at the police station for less than twenty-four hours! And I- I wasn’t able to see my brother one last time!” The man called Zhou Wen suddenly looked up and glared at the camera, his face filled with the same anger that was emitted from his whole body. Seeing this, the five people’s expressions in the monitoring room changed.

“Your brother’s situation was already investigated…..In Shanghai, car accidents are common. It’s because he…..”

“Nonsense! My brother would never run a red light! And with all his bones broken, how could he be hit just once!” Zhou Wen recalled the day that he received the news from the nurse. His eyes widened and, repeatedly, he smashed his fist against the wall as a bloody flower began to blossom. Even those in the monitoring room clearly felt the power of his despair.

“And do you guys know? Do you know?! They laughed and discussed that they fortunately only hit one person. So fortunate that they……went back several times……” Zhou Wen’s voice was low and his tone suffocated the onlookers: “Dead. A university student of no importance was dead and could easily be dealt with…..just pay it off with some money…….if he only got injured then things would have been worse and so……he’s dead…….DEAD!” The last word was yelled out. After yelling, the man no longer spoke but the moment he looked down, several people noticed something falling onto the ground ——–Tears!

Seeing this, Old Wang no longer wanted to continue looking at the monitor. Zhou Wen, this hard-working child…

——–“Bosz Wang, do you know? My brother is very smart. Since young, he has always been first in his class and now he is admitted to such a good university! It’s a university in Shanghai and he even got a scholarship!”

——–“Boss Wang, when I joined the army, it was because I wanted to make some money for my brother’s school fees. At that time, I thought that military subsidies were not enough so entering Division 9 was a great opportunity!”

——–“Boss Wang, is a place like Shanghai expensive? Should I send more money to my brother?”

——–“Boss Wang, my brother sent me clothes. A down jacket worth a few hundred dollars. He said he earned money working as a home tutor. Boss Wang, he probably doesn’t even wear one himself. He’s wasting it on me.”

——– “Boss Wang, my brother sent me a photo. He’s so handsome…….I heard that the people in the village already have someone in mind for him.……That’s right, my brother asked me for a photo. Can I borrow your hair gel? And your shirt?”

———-“Boss Wang, my brother got a scholarship again. Can I take leave to go see him? Just for a few days…..My brother has always been complaining that he hasn’t seen me for years……..You also know that he is my only relative…..”

………………
…………
……

His last memory was seeing the man he had raised clutching onto a pile of things his brother had sent as he huddled in his bedroom. With a face filled with tears but his voice calm: “Boss Wang, my brother was in a car accident…”

No matter how bad the injury was, no matter what difficulty he encountered, the Zhou Wen who never cried had cried to the point that he could no longer speak!

Old Wang took in a deep breath. The air inside the monitoring room appeared to be stagnant causing his chest to feel stuffy.

He was a soldier and had always been strict with himself. He didn’t smoke or drink but at this time he had the urge to have a smoke. He had never imagined that the disciple he had been so proud of would only go out for a week and cause such a big chaos. The murder of eight high school students with his superb killing techniques made international headlines.

“My brother. That was my brother. I didn’t even get to see him one last time! He’s dead!” Zhou Wen continued to repeat this as he sobbed. His voice, as if it was coming from hell, carried dead air into the monitoring room, silencing the people inside.
